The idea to do a collaboration with other artists was not inspired by similar movies on Newgrounds (in which there were very few at the time) but the Animatrix. After seeing “The Matrix Revolutions” me and a friend began to jot down ideas for our own collection of shorts. While the original list was far too long to be one movie, I managed to find enough people to do two collection of shorts.
Metal Maverick was the first person I contacted via e-mail, while the others I chatted with on AIM. For most of the movies I gave the author my thoughts and a outline for a script, and we worked together on finalizing it. Some animators took more initiative themselves, such as Super Flash Bros who wrote and animated half the movie before I asked them to be on the project. (I just mentioned an idea I liked, and they ran with it.)
The collection was a surprising, huge hit on Newgrounds, equaling the number of hits as “FF Tribute.” I can only take a small part of the credit… everyone did an awesome job!
Fun Fact: The name “The Matrix Has You” was taken on Newgrounds when I submitted the movie, so I added a period to the end. Also, the title was taken by the words Trinity types on Neo’s computer.
